When we last had a member of the family pass away it was easy enough to do a small wake in the lounge of the deceased’s family home. There were not that many folk to cater for – plenty came to the funeral but were work colleagues and had to get back to the office / lab etc. This time we had more of a challenge. No one lived that end of the county now and we only chose to use the crematorium because that’s where mum and brother had their trimuphant send offs. Now we were seeking a place that would happily cater for a dozen or so folk wanting afternoon tea. This rather unusual choice of fare was because the dearly departed had a particular weakness for them and his last few outings always had some connection to one somewhere. A friend has offered to cater for us and was able to hose us all and the cars needed. Only trouble was that her domestic skills on the cleaning front were not as fantastic as the cooking. . . So as not to cause a offence we offered to have her downstairs professionally cleaned as part of the price so she could concentrate on the catering and not worry about anything else. It worked a treat and we all had a good wake without fear of anyone joining the dearly departed any sooner than needed!
