May brings the start of those lovely summer holiday thoughts.  The weeks are getting lighter and all that ghastly wet and snowy winter nonsense is over for another few months.  In the old days there was a definite move to spring clean around the end of Easter and through to Whitsun – this is now at the end of May and every bit of each house was expected to be thoroughly cleansed and turned out by then.  In the victorian times, particularly when servants were plentiful, the cleaning methods had to be very quick and thorough.  the beady eye of the Housekeeper and or Butler were always picking up on a missed article.  Today we have the luxury of hiring in professional cleaners to do all these essential tasks.  Carpet cleaning, oven cleaning – offers to make mine like new, hmmm a wonderous thing!  All just a short phone call away.
